Don't Look Back Farm--Horses

About Don't Look Back Farm

Don't Look Back Farm is a very small Hanoverian and Oldenburg breeding and young horse-raising operation.  My goal is to produce winning North American-born warmblood performance horses, either bred or raised by Don't Look Back Farm.  My focus is hunters and jumpers.  My love of horses was a gift from my family and I hope to do them proud with the farm’s produce.

Two generations ago, one grandfather was involved with harness horses, including the great “Miss Maud”.  The other side of grandparents, including a “step” grandfather, who with my grandmother owned several large farms in Laytonsville, MD,  owned “Kristi”, a 15.2 hand Thoroughbred mare, who took top honors in hunters and jumpers in the 1940’s.

My mother grew up hunting side-saddle, then showed hunters and Saddlebreds.  She and her mare Gallant Lady were a successful team, including Best Young Rider at Devon in the 1930’s.  Blowing Rock, where the family owned a home, was a favorite venue.

Growing up in Washington, DC, I had only one pony of my own, the incomparable “Not Guilty”, bought in 1961, a former Maryland large pony jumper champion.  I rode her in jumpers and hunters, hanging on for dear life, as she dragged my eight to twelve year old self over every kind of course.  I had the luck of catch riding for some of the greats, including Walter  “Jimmie” Lee and Rodney Jenkins.

Academic and professional pursuits kept me from the show ring for nearly 25 years.  When time and finances finally allowed, I was living in California.  In 1991, I bought a four year old Virginia Thoroughbred and climbed the ranks to the A/O hunters on the California circuit.  From there, I went to jumpers.

I moved back to the East Coast in 1999 and bought a few projects.  I missed the hunters, however, so in 2002, I bought my dream mare, my first warmblood, a Hanoverian mare named Miss Marple.  When a pasture accident sidelined her, she became my foundation broodmare.  In 2005, she produced Simone Signoret.  From that moment of that birth, I was hooked.

Don’t Look Back Farm is my homage to my family:   while I am not involved in harness horses or Thoroughbreds, I dedicate myself to “looking forward” and producing great warmblood performance horses.
